Colorado Resources

Local and County Resources:

The Museums of Western Colorado are another great resource for local history information.  Learn more by visiting the website for the Museums of Western Colorado.

The Mesa County Genealogical Society offers helpful information and hosts appointments to learn more about genealogy among various library locations.  Visit the Mesa County Genealogical Society website for more information.

Visit the FamilySearch website for information for our local Family History Center.

The website for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel Obituaries features death notices and obituaries from funeral homes and families.  Recent obituary entries are availalbe in The Daily Sentinel.

Local Obituaries

The Mesa County Library carries microfilm of The Daily Sentinel back to 1893. The microfilm is located on the lower level of the Central Library. An obituary file is located next to the microfilm and it is available for use. Library staff are also available for assistance and if you are from out of town or are otherwise unable to visit us, library staff will search our microfilm holdings and send requested obituaries via email. To request one, write to ask@mcpld.org. Please include in the request the last name, first name, birth date, and death date of each individual you are seeking an obituary for. You will typically receive a response within 5 business days.

State Resources:

Access Colorado's Historic Newspaper Collection for digitized records of 147 newspapers published in the state between 1859-1923.

The website, USGenWeb Colorado is dedicated to providing free access to Colorado archives, obituaries, and special projects.
