The first of a trilogy, "Annihilation" deals with the 12th government expedition into Area X, a part of the United States that has been cut off from the rest of the country since a mysterious event occurred many years previously. The book follows the biologist (no names are used in the first book) of the team as she realizes that there's a lot more going on in Area X than meets the eye. The second book, "Authority", is more like spy sci-fi with a few horror elements included later on. The final book, "Acceptance", is a mind-bender. Good for fans of Cthulu stories by H.P. Lovecraft, or the more adventuresome sci-fi crowd. Recommended by Andy.
This story takes place in the future where things have gone back to "medieval" ways after a "world ending" traumatic event. It has a magical element to it and a likable heroine. I believe there is a sequel coming out this spring and there is talk about a possible movie. Recommended by Amanda.
